It’s tea season everyone! As the weather gets colder here in New England, what is more perfect to warm you up then a cup of freshly brewed tea? I finally decided to do something I have always wanted to do, visit a tea room. I couldn’t love the idea more of sipping tea with great company, surrounded by the ornate decor of a tea room. Plus, it gives anyone an excuse to dress-up or get dolled up.
The Team Room
The tea room I visited this past weekend was Fancy That in Walpole. Fancy That was featured on the show Chronicle-“Hidden Gems”; and let me tell you, it is indeed a hidden gem. Not only were the owners attentive to their tea room guests, but were also extremely welcoming. It felt as if I was invited into a friend’s home for tea.
The decor was both quaint and stunning. Everywhere I looked, there was something new to observe. From the vintage pink couch in the “gift shoppe”, to the elegant china displayed around the tea rooms. Everything fit perfectly in the space. I could not stop saying how captivating my surroundings were.
Choosing the type of tea I wanted took a few minutes because the intensive selection. Fancy That offers over 40 types of tea. I decided to go with Love Affair, which had hints of strawberry and chocolate. It was sweet, but not overpowering. I didn’t even need sugar. I was quite happy with my choice. Next time I’d like to try a new tea, however, it would be hard not to order Love Affair again.
Besides the tea, my favorite part about the tea room was obviously the food. Fancy That offered an array of eats, from savory to sweet. Beginning with the savory, we were given three finger sandwiches including: Cucumber, cream cheese, chive and onion on white bread; Ham, brie, cranberry relish, orange marmalade and candied pecans on marble rye; Chicken Salad with Apricot Jam on a type of wheat bread. For sweet treats, I appreciated how fitting they were for the month of October. We were presented with items including a pumpkin white chocolate scone, gingerbread cupcake, pumpkin pie parfait with a marshmallow ghost and a candy corn dipped macaron (in both vanilla and chocolate).
Planning my outfit for attending the tea room was so fun. I wanted to play with bright colors, as well as jewel tones. I paired a yellow top with royal blue and purple. At first I wasn’t sure about those colors together, but the bright and cool tones meshed well together. I luckily had a necklace in my collection that had the exact same jewel tones as my hair fascinator (see picture above). My top was newly purchased from J-Crew, it is on sale! My hair accessory is an original piece, made by yours truly. Readers, look out for a future blog post about how I made the hair accessory.
Overall, Fancy That has created a magical little escape from reality where you can relax and just drink tea! I had a wonderful time and cannot wait to head back. I highly recommend checking out Fancy That, you can book a reservation here.
